Herringbone Abbeyhill is situated on London Road at the junction with Easter Road. It’s a short walk along London Road from Elm Row and about 15 mins to Arthurs Seat / Dynamic Earth.
Interestingly it used to be public toilets but now it’s a beautiful light and airy restaurant with a gorgeous decking area kitted out with seating, plants and lights where I can see myself spending a lot of time.
The Menu
Herringbone specialises in simple but delicious food focusing on seasonal and regional ingredients. They are also very knowledgeable when it comes to gluten free v coeliac and the staff took great care at talking my friend through the menu advising her what she could and couldn’t have and any variations they could do.
We ordered the following:
· Battered Chicken with bacon and cheese burger (Daily Gourmet Burger – not always available)
· Flat Iron Chicken with Gremolata (GF)
· Seared Watermelon Steak with soy, ginger and chilli (GF)
· Sticky toffee pudding (GF)
· Roasted Thyme Peaches with ice cream
Each dish was delicious – the burger was massive but really tasty and I will 100% be ordering the flat iron chicken next time I visit as it looked incredible.
Although we were stuffed we both still managed desserts – although the dessert menu is quite boozy I asked for the peaches without the prosecco which was not a problem! The roasted peaches were a perfect summer dessert – light and flavourful!
The AF Alternatives
Herringbone has an extensive selection of mocktails which are delicious – I had the excuse my French (their take on a French Martini) and it was amazing! I could have sat and drank them all day – and probably will on another visit! They also have AF takes on a Pornstar Martini and a Hugo to name a few.
