January 2023 - Tapa - The Shore, Leith, Edinburgh

Updated: Jan 26, 2023

Tapa is a perfect solution to a dark, blustery, winters evening in Edinburgh. The fairy lights leading the way into the Restaurant set the tone of a place which oozes warmth, charm and give us a chance to escape to a backstreet tapas bar in Spain if only for a few hours.

Tapa has been a long standing staple in Leith serving authentic tapas dishes as well some which have a nod to Scotland. The menu is extensive allowing for lots of choice and a great mix of meat, seafood and vegetarian dishes. After ordering the food came quickly, which was a relief as I was starving (turns out starting a blog is hungry work!!).

We opted for the special which was Haggis Croquetas (I can never resist anything with haggis in it), the Croquetas de Pollo Asado (Lemon and Thyme Roasted Chicken Croquettes), the Chargrilled Chorizo, the Sectreto, the Patatas Bravas (because who can go for Tapas and not order these!!) and the Warm Butternut Squash Salad which provided some lightness to everything. For 2 people we felt this was just enough to allow for dessert but if you are not a dessert fan I would recommending ordering a bit more!! The dessert menu is small but filled with the classics - Churros, a Basque Cheesecake or Pedro Ximenez ice cream - we went for the Churros which comes with a chocolate sauce and the Baked Cheesecake with a delicious Dulce de Leche and were not disappointed!

The staff are great, attentive and good at clearing plates to allow for more room on the table, or more tapas dishes to be ordered, but they also allow you to sit, pick and chat like Tapas was designed for.

AF alternatives included a Spanish 0% beer (#Estrellagalicia), a version of their classic Sangria (which I thought was a nice touch) and #Seedlip with tonic. Last time I was there they did also make me an AF cocktail but that wasn't on the menu.

On a personal note, it felt only right I headed to Tapa this week at the start of my blogging adventure as this is where my Meetup adventure started with my first ever Eat, Drink, Laugh Meetup in 2019. I hope it gives me as much luck for the blog as it did for my Meetup!

For anyone looking for this Leith staple its located on 19 Shore Place (just behind The Shore in Leith). Check it out at Tapa, Authentic Spanish Tapas Restaurant In Edinburgh (tapaedinburgh.co.uk)
